Keukenhof - like being in a dream

After graduating college, I was fortunate to win two business class plane tickets to Europe.  I was 24 years old at the time and decided to ask my mother to travel with me.  We booked a three week trip that I will never forget.  First, because I spent the time with my mother.

She has been there for me without hesitation, through the good and bad, prodding me to always be better, work harder, do the right thing...but always there when I need a hug or a shoulder to cry on.  Which being Italian I often do!

I think she would agree that our time in Holland, specifically at Keukenhof, was some of the most memorable.  I think I've mentioned before that my mom LOVES tulips, in fact, when she is in a sentimental mood (which her being German is rare) that is what she calls me...although I've rarely thought I'm delicate enough to pull off the nickname.

When we arrived at Keukenhof we were there at the perfect time for its annual 7,000,000 (yes, that's 7 million) bulb display.  You see, the park deemed the "Garden of Europe" is only open from the middle of March until the middle of May.  Seemingly a gloomy season to visit because of spring showers...but Keukenhof is anything but gloomy.  It rained when we were there and we hid under our travel umbrellas, mouths open in awe at the colors, the varieties, the patterns...I can still clearly conjure the feelings.

I am a huge fan of travel, when I can.  And I must say that if you have the opportunity, go.  I assure you that it will not be a decision you regret.
